Danae & Prayer I Am ship in to win American National

August 25, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Danae took the $150,000 American National for three-year-old trotting fillies in 1:55.3 Saturday at Balmoral.  Prayer I am won the $205,000 colt equivalent in 1:54.3.

Danae, driven by Ryan Anderson, was parked third to the opening quarter, then got to the rail and sat, patiently waiting for the stretch.  She won by one and a quarter lengths over race favorite Possess The Magic, who was driven by Mike Lachance.  Wishful Me (Don Swick), who got away tenth closed the fastest in the race (:27.4) to finish third.

Danae, owned by Rodney Mitchell, Inc. and Teague, Inc. and trained by George Teague, Jr., last raced in, and won, the Hambletonian Oaks.  She now has over half a million in lifetime earnings.

Prayer I Am, fresh off a Kentucky Sire Stakes victory on August 13, took the colt American National in 1:54.3 for driver Tom Sells.  Xactly Hanover took to the front and just after the half went off stride and caused the field behind him to bunch up.  But Sells already had Prayer I Am on the outside and stayed clear of the trouble.  The colt took the lead at the three quarters and was able to hold off a stretch drive by Rune and Marcus Johansson.  Great Success and Mike Lachance finished third.

Owned by Roy Dobbins of Bryant, Alabama, Prayer I am now has six wins in 18 starts, with a 1:53 lifetime mark.  Prayer I Am is by Like a Prayer out of a Cumin mare.
