Southwind Tempo made an impressive 4-year-old debut as she marched to a 1:50.4 victory in a $50,000 Overbid Series division Friday night at the Meadowlands. With John Campbell in the sulky, Southwind Tempo rocketed past Ulrica Bromac in the stretch and drew off to a 2 3/4-length win over a rain-soaked track. She paid $5.20, $2.80, $2.20. Kevin Lare added Southwind Tempo to his roster of trainees after Jerry Silva of Long Beach, NY purchased the 2007 Three-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the Year in a million-dollar deal last week. Southwind Tempo was a bargain $3,500 purchase developed by Lare’s stepbrother, Toby Lynch Jr. She won 16 of 21 starts and $863,604 while racing for Steve Elliott last season. (Meadowlands)
