Dan Patch champ returns

April 21, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Dan Patch Award winner Village Jolt made his first appearance as a sophomore a winning one, capturing a qualifier at Pocono Downs Thursday morning in 1:56. With trainer Ed Hart at the lines, the son of Cam's Card Shark sat in the two hole through fractions of :28.3, :57.3 and 1:26.3 before tipping out in the final turn and going on to win by more than three lengths.

"I am very happy. It was where I wanted to go," Hart told The Horseman by cell phone shortly after the qualifier. "I got lucky as I was able to sit in a little bit. I tipped him and he responded real well. It was a pretty good mile today.

"He still has a ways to go yet for where he's got to go," added Hart. "We'll just take it week by week. So far he hasn't been sick and he's been sound. He's come back good."

Hart said last year's Woodrow Wilson and Breeders Crown winner owned by Jeffrey Snyder and Arlene and Jules Siegel will probably make two more qualifying starts at the Meadowlands before making a pari-mutuel start.

"I didn't keep him eligible for the Berry's Creek," said Hart. "The New Jersey Classic will be his first start, possibly a Sire Stakes before that."
