Yannick Gingras pulled Darlin’s Delight from the pocket before the three quarter mile marker and held off a hard-charging My Little Dragon to win the $232,000 Golden Girls Saturday at the Meadowlands in 1:49.2. Tidewaterdragonfly finished third.
After passing three quarters in 1:22.4, the five year old Bettor’s Delight mare took command as My Little Dragon and Brian Sears began their charge on the outside. The challengers closed with every stride, but Darlin’s Delight held on for her second seasonal win. Owned and bred by White Birch Farm, Darlin’s Delight fell one-fifth short of her lifetime best mark. A millionaire twice over, the mare earned her 24th career victory, coming in her 52nd start.
