Daughter of Cameron Hall second at Red Mile

Grand Cameron, a daughter of the recently deceased Cameron Hall, finished second in a $6,000 late closer event Monday at The Red Mile. This was the 2-year-old filly’s first pari-mutuel start after breaking in two baby races at Mohawk in July and finally qualifying on Aug. 5 in Lexington.

“We added a head pole on the left side the first time and added a head pole to the right side the second time,” Adam Bowden of Diamond Creek Farm, the owner of the Yankee Glide filly, said of equipment changes made by trainer Bob Stewart prior to each race. “We are very pleased with her race (Monday).”

The race featured another filly whose dam, EL Chelsea, is a full sister to the $1.8-million winning Cameron Hall. This filly, EL Mistress Chesea, finished third just behind Grand Cameron.

“We purchased (Grand Cameron) privately as a yearling. Never told (how much we paid). It’s a secret,” Bowden said with a smile. “There are rumors, and most of them are probably true.”
Bowden said he expects Grand Cameron to make another start in Lexington next week, but he said he and Stewart may take a chance and send her to Indianapolis to race.
