Although summer isn't scheduled to end for another day or so, fall-like temperatures encompassed the Delaware (Ohio) County Fairgrounds on Jugette Day. Although it was cool, driver Dave Palone was still "hot" as he boasted about winning a mini-golf match on Tuesday at Jack Nicklaus's Muirfield Village Golf Club.

"I partnered with (Ohio-based owner) Pat Huber, who is a member at Muirfield, and we beat the (pants) off over (Woodbine Entertainment Group events and marketing director) Bruce Murray and (driver) Steve Condren."

Palone said the match was best-ball, and that he and Huber were thrilled to earn the bragging rights over their Canadian counterparts.

Also at Delaware on Wednesday were Hall of Fame electee John Manzi, the longtime publicity director at Monticello Raceway, and his wife, Sharon. Although Manzi has been in the harness industry for more than 50 years, this is the first time he has ever made it Delaware where he will see his first-ever Little Brown Jug on Thursday.

"This is really overwhelming and awesome," said Manzi, who drove 9 1/2 hours from his home in Monticello, N.Y. "This reminds me of my first time ever at Chicago's O'Hare airport, which came on the night before Thanksgiving. This is just as mind-boggling as that was."
