There is no shortage of horses at the Delaware County Fair. A total of 20 races, featuring five divisions of Ohio Breeders Championships, are scheduled for opening day, Sunday, Sept. 14. First post is 12 noon.

A field of 15 two-year-old pacing fillies will race in two $30,263 divisions of the OBC Pace, the third leg of the Ohio Triple Crown.

Down The Wire Stable’s Best Of Ball, unbeaten in seven lifetime starts, captured a $23,600 Ohio State Fair Stake division and the $80,000 Ohio Sire Stakes Championship. Trained and driven by Jim Dailey, the daughter of Presidential Ball-Ms Mulan has earned $94,650 and took her record of 1:56 in the State Fair Stake at Scioto Downs, then equaled that mark in the OSS final. Best Of Ball, who is in the first division, will start from post two.

Holdzmfromfloppin, who also won a State Fair division, will be Best Of Ball’s main rival from the outside post seven for trainer-driver Lanny Merriman.

Jellyfish Joy is the early favorite in the second $30,263 division from post four. The Daniel Wozniak-owned filly also won a division of the Ohio State Fair. Brian Brown is the trainer and the filly will be driven by Chris Page.

Also on Sunday’s program are three $19,579 divisions of the OBC 3-year-old filly trot. (LBJ)
