Delightful Lynch winner

Darlin’s Delight captured the $139,692 James M. Lynch Memorial Pace for 3-year-old pacing fillies at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Saturday afternoon, setting a world record in the process with a 1:50:1 mile. That clocking erased the 1:50.3 standard set by Jus' Chillin Out two years ago.

Darlin's Delight, a daughter of Bettor’s Delight and the million-dollar winner Town Pro, grabbed the lead from early pacesetter Benear at the three-eighths mark. She set imposing fractions from there, and held off a brush on the back stretch by favorite My Little Dragon, who finished second several lengths back. Eternity’s Delight was third.

Driver Yannick Gingras was unconcerned about the possible fatigue factor after Darlin’s Delight worked hard in winning an elimination race last week. “I knew she was ready,” said Gingras. “She was up to it.”

That makes 11 wins in 17 lifetime starts for the filly, and she has never finished worse than second. Last year Darlin's Delight won nine of 14 starts and earned $560,404. Jeff Stafford trains Darlin’s Delight for owners White Birch Farm of Allentown, N.J.
