Deo Volente buys into Holiday Road

Mike Gulotta, owner and operator of Deo Volente Farm in Flemington, NJ,  said Thursday that the farm had acquired a 20 percent interest in last year’s Peter Haughton Memorial Trot winner, Holiday Road, for an undisclosed sum.

The 3-year-old Yankee Glide colt earned $312,530, while winning three of six starts and set a national season’s mark of 1:54 in winning the Haughton. The Haughton win was his last win of the season, which concluded with two races at The Red Mile.

A $115,000 yearling purchase, Holiday Road is a full brother to trotter and sire Ken Warkentin, a winner of  $902,355.

He will continue to be trained by Greg Peck, who is also part of the ownership group which, along with Deo Volente, includes Jerry Silva, TLP Stable and Patricia Bolte.

“We found out that at the end of his season last year, he had health issues,” said Gulotta. “He had ulcers and is being treated with Gastrogard. We had him vetted and he is in great shape and fine flesh.”

Gulotta said that Holiday Road would likely follow in the footsteps of Peck’s 2009 star Muscle Hill. “But that is Greg’s decision.”
