Hambletonian champion Deweycheatumnhowe will make his first start since winning the $1.5 million trotting classic Aug. 2 at the Meadowlands in a five-horse $30,000 Open Trot Friday nght at Vernon Downs. Trainer, driver and co-owner Ray Schnittker said following Dewey's Hambo victory he was hoping to get a start for the 3-year-old trotter at Tioga at the request of track owner Jeff Gural, using the race as a prep for the upcoming World Trotting Derby Aug. 30 at Du Quoin, Ill.

Deweycheatumnhowe and his $1-million 2008 bankroll will start from the outside post five in the race, which is on the same card as the $135,000 Conway Hall for older mare trotters and the $123,500 Artiscape for older mare pacers. First post is 6:55 p.m., with the night also featuring a special Brian Sears bobblehead giveaway, while supplies last.
