Dewey, Snow White begin to prepare for sophomore stakes

Trainer Ray Schnittker reports that the 3-year-old colt trotter Deweycheatumnhowe has arrived at the Meadowlands to prepare for the upcoming stakes season, while co-owner Curtis Larrimore has revealed the 2008 schedule for the 3-year-old filly trotter Snow White.

Schnittker and Larrimore were both in St. Petersburg, Fla., accepting Harness Tracks of America 2007 Nova awards on behalf of their horses. Deweycheatumnhowe and Snow White were earlier named Dan Patch Award winners as the best of their respective divisions, and finished second and third, respectively, behind Donato Hanover in Horse of the Year balloting.

Schnittker said he has yet to see Deweycheatumnhowe after the colt spent the winter at Walnut Hall Ltd. in Lexington, Ky. Schnittker said he plans on a “Donato Hanover-type schedule,” with plans to have the Muscles Yankee colt make his 2008 debut in June at the Meadowlands and remain at the Big M through the Hambletonian the first Saturday in August.

Although there have been reported offers to sell Snow White, the daughter of Self Possessed remains in trainer and co-owner Kevin Lare’s Delaware barn. Larrimore said he expects the filly to make her first sophomore appearance at Mohawk in late May in the Casual Breeze and then the early-June Elegantimage. He added that because of Snow White’s winter growth spurt, they had to have a race sulky custom built for her.

As for a possible on-track match-up between Snow White and Deweycheatumnhowe, Larrimore said the connections would be open to such a possibility. “She’ll tell us,” said Larrimore.
