Deweycheatumnhowe overcame post 10 and a trip that put him far behind the pacesetters and rallied five and six wide through the homestretch to finish alongside Clerk Magistrate, but get the slim win in the first heat of the Kentucky Futurity in 1:52.3 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile.

Crazed took the early lead, then yielded to supplemental entry Define The World, but before the half was reached in :55.1, Tim Tetrick had engineered a re-take with Crazed. Meanwhile, trainer-driver Ray Schnittker moved Dewey from next to last on the back straightaway and began to eat up ground until the outer flow, which included Celebrity Secret, stalled.

Schnittker tipped Dewey at the head of the lane to give him a clear shot and the son of Muscles Yankee ate up racetrack with an individual final quarter of :27.2 and finally put his nose on the wire just ahead of supplemental entry Clerk Magistrate, driven by Trevor Ritchie. The official charted margin was a head. Make It Happen--a Schnittker trainee--was third for Brian Sears.
