Dial Or Nodial, the 2008 New Jersey Sire Stakes Horse of the Year as a two-year-old, makes his 2009 debut Saturday night (May 23) at The Meadowlands in NJSS competition for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings. The son of Western Ideal will make his first start in a $61,400 Sire Stakes Premier Division race with Tim Tetrick driving for owners Arlene and Jules Siegel and trainer Jim Campbell. The colt, one of the nation’s top two-year-olds with $414,124 in purse earnings last year, had eight wins in 12 starts as a two-year-old to take top NJSS honors. The race is one of four Sire Stakes preliminary legs this weekend worth $245,600, with each race going for $61,400. Last weekend, there were six races with total purses of $249,000. “In our first two weeks of racing, we will have distributed almost a half million dollars,” noted NJSS Executive Director Chris Castens. “If you have an eligible New Jersey-sired horse, you will have a great chance to earn more purse money than ever.” Nine three-year-old NJ-Sired colts and geldings are entered in the other $61,400 Premier Division race, featuring the three winners of last week’s first preliminary leg races, Drop Red (Red River Hanover), Estero Bay (Western Ideal) and Redneck Riviera (Red River Hanover). That field of eight will also include Fireintheshark (Cam’s Card Shark), winner of $172,875 last year, with victories in two NJSS legs and the $39,400 New Jersey Futurity at Freehold Raceway and the $89,320 International Stallion Stake at Lexington. On Friday night (May 22), nine New Jersey-sired three-year-old pacing fillies will compete in each of two more $61,400 Premier Division races. First preliminary leg winners Precious Stone (Western Ideal) and McGibson (Mcardle) are among the leading entrants.
