Dime supers at Red Mile

Ten-cent betting will be coming to The Red Mile. The Red Mile will open its 2005 race meet July 29, and the 10-cent superfecta wager, which is quickly becoming popular at racetracks across the country, will be available.

A superfecta bet consists of a bettor correctly selecting the top-four finishers in a race, but previously with $1 and $2 minimums the amount spent sometimes became out of range for a high percentage of bettors. With a 10-cent minimum, numerous combinations can now be purchased at a much lower cost.

"By having the 10-cent superfecta tickets, it will allow our patrons to spend only a little bit of money but get many more combinations," said The Red Mile's simulcast and mutuel director Julie Sorrell. "Just think, when a bettor is slightly afraid to include that 80-1 longshot because of the additional costs involved with $2 or even $1 tickets, now for just a few cents more that horse can be included, which could lead to a big payoff if that horse hits the board."

For example, five-horse superfecta boxes, which cost $120 for a $1 wager, will only cost $12 with the 10-cent bet. Using one key horse in the win position with five others in the other three positions, will only cost $6 with the 10-cent tickets.

"We believe our fans will quickly fall in love with the bet just as fans at other major tracks have done already," said Sorrell.
