Direct Scooter dies

Top racehorse and stallion Direct Scooter has died at the age of 29 at Walnridge Farm in New Jersey. Over his two years of racing in 1979-80, Direct Scooter won 36 of 60 races, including a mark of 1:54, and earning $800,451.



Direct Scooter, a son of Sampson Direct, went on to a stellar stallion career, siring more than 1,600 starters who earned more than $100 million on the racetrack. He sired 278 winners of $100,000 or more and had 306 of his progeny earn a mark of 1:55 or better. His fastest and richest performer was the $2.9 million-winning Matt's Scooter, who had a time-trial mark of 1:48.2.
