Divisional champ back in form in Ohio Sire Stakes

Last year’s divisional champion Osborne’s Gypsy is every bit as good again this year, and she showed it again Friday night at Scioto Downs,  taking her division of Ohio Sires Stakes by a length in 1:53.4. Ryan Stahl drove the daughter of On The Attack for trainer Eric Hamlet.

It was the fifth win in six sophomore starts for Osborne’s Gypsy, who is owned by Jerome Osborne of Mentor, Ohio. She was the lone Triple Crown winner last year in Ohio.

Three-year-old trotting and pacing fillies were contesting their fifth and last leg of Ohio Sires Stakes at Scioto, with the $100,000 OSS Championships next up at Northfield Park on Ohio Super Night, Saturday, September 1.

Evening Jet has had a few eventful races lately. Last time out, she made a three-wide move, suffered interference, and then just missed a nose at Scioto. Time before that, she closed from 10 lengths back to finish third at Raceway Park. This time, however, things went a bit smoother, and she scored by a length and a quarter in 1:55.3 in the second pacing division.

The daughter of Jet Laag, owned by trainer Jeff Miller along with Jeffrey Philpot, has been extremely consistent this season, and now has five wins, four seconds and three thirds from 15 starts to her credit. Aaron Merriman drove.

BV’s Sister kept her 2007 record perfect with her sixth win in as many starts Friday night. The daughter of Big Victory, with Ryan Stahl in the bike, secured the lead before the half and went on to a two and quarter length score in a lifetime best 1:56.4.

Trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. for Barnett Zimmerman LLC of Deerfield, Illinois, BV’s Sister went over $100,000 in earnings with the win.

E Pegasus spent a lot of time on the outside in her trotting division, but overcame her rough trip to win by a neck in 1:59 for driver Del S. Miller and trainer Jim Arledge Jr. The Pegasus Spur miss, owned by Greg Buckey and Thomas York Jr., was notching her third victory of the season. (Scioto)
