The opening session of the Standardbred Horse Sale Company’s annual yearling sale in Harrisburg got underway Monday morning and quickly posted big prices with hip number 26, a Revenue sister to Donato Hanover, bringing a bid of $325,000 and a pacing filly out of Rich N Elegant selling for $300,000.

The filly D Liteful Hanover, a daughter of Revenue S and D Train, is an April 3 foal. David Scharf, one of the owners of Donato Hanover, signed the sales slip with partner Steve Jones.

The second $300,000 bid came for Rarified Hanover, a full sister to Horse of the Year Rocknroll Hanover and a slew of other big winners. Diamond Creek Farm bought the filly from the prolific Rich N Elegant, who has also produced Royalflush Hanover, Rustler Hanover, Red River Hanover and Richess Hanover.

Just a couple of hips later Jeffrey Snyder, who campaigned Rocknroll Hanover, paid $280,000 for a Wewstern Hanover colt out of Mattaroni, a $700,000-plus winner who has produced Armbro Bombay, Armbro Cinnamon and this year's stakes winner Pasta Lavista.

Another filly who brought a big price in the opening session was Chalice Hanover, a daughter of Western Ideal and Cathedra, who was bought for $200,000 by Richard Young, who has raced such notables as Sing Fat Lady, who won the 2001 Sweetheart.

Cathedra, a $700,000-plus winner, has been a prolific producer from just seven foals. Among her offspring are Western Shooter p,2, 1:50, The Preacher Pan p, 1:50, and two fillies who won a million dollars on the track, Cathedra Dot Com and Cabrini Hanover.
