Dobson pads Monticello lead

February 09, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Last month when Billy Dobson said he was going to try to win the driving title at Monticello Raceway this year he wasn’t kidding. He knew that making that kind of statement would put him in the line of fire with his follow reinsmen, but as he says now, “Maybe the boys will be gunning for me but that’s their business…. I’m just out there trying to win every race I’m in.”

Dobson added three more wins to his driving totals Monday, and he opened a little daylight on runner-up Bruce Aldrich Jr., who had a four-bagger last Thursday and who added another victory Monday. However, at day’s end Dobson leads Aldrich by five wins, 42—37.

Dobson’s first victory came in the third race when he scored a 1:58.3 score with his own Artistic Apex and he came back to win the fifth race with Guido Carpenito and Anthony Veltorino’s Eastern Photo in 2:01. His final visit to the winner's circle came in the ninth race behind Art Green’s, Julia’s Girl in a time of 2:01.1.

Dobson moved east  from his home state of Michigan in late 2008 and has made his presence known. Last season he won 290 races, among those his 1,000th driving victory. With 56 seasonal wins already this season Dobson finds himself tied for sixth place in races won in North America. (Monticello)
