David Scharf told harnessracing.com Thursday morning that he expects Hambletonian winner Donato Hanover to be entered in the upcoming Yonkers Trot at Yonkers Raceway. “If the draw was today, he’d be in,” said Scharf of the second jewel of trotting’s Triple Crown which has eliminations scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18 and a $1 million (est.) final Saturday, Aug. 25. Scharf added that with Donato Hanover likely starting in the Yonkers Trot, that would mean the 3-year-old colt would not be shipped to Du Quoin for the World Trotting Derby over Labor Day weekend, giving him a week off before a probable start in the $1 million Canadian Trotting Classic eliminations Sept. 8 at Mohawk.
