October 20, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Donato Hanover rolled to his seventh straight triumph Friday night at Woodbine, capturing his $25,000 elimination of the Breeders Crown 2-year-old colt trot in 1:56.2 by three-quarters of a length over the German-owned Adrian Chip. In the second split of the freshman colt trot, Mythical Lindy nosed out favored Quite Easy in 1:57.2 and in the third elim Laddie scored in 1:56.4.

With Ron Pierce at the lines, Donato Hanover waited until the backstretch to move from fourth to the lead, reaching the half in :59 with the lead and Adrian Chip and trainer Per Henriksen sitting in the pocket. The duo passed the three quarters in 1:28.1 and with a :28.1 final panel Donato Hanover held safe to the wire.

Steve Elliott trains the winning Andover Hall colt for David Scharf, Golden Touch Stable and Steve Arnold. Adrian Chip, who came into the race with four wins and a second in five starts, is owned by Ernst Gerbaulet of Recklinghausen, Germany.

Mythical Lindy and David Miller led the second elimination to the opening quarter in :28.1 then gave way to Quite Easy and John Campbell down the backstretch before the :59.1 half. Miller then pulled his SJ’s Caviar colt back out entering the final turn and after a 1:28.3 third quarter the two colts went head to head down the lane. In one final surge Mythical Lindy put his nose in front and scored his seventh victory of the year in 10 starts. Relentless Duke and Trevor Ritchie were third.

Bred by the Lindy Racing Stable, Mythical Lindy is owned by Thomas York Jr. and Joe Sbrocco.

Laddie with Paul MacDonell in the bike, sprinted to the lead on the backstretch before the final turn and was unchallenged the rest of the mile, passing the three quarters in 1:28 then holding off the fast-closing Xactly Hanover and Cat Manzi by a length. Early leader Stunt Man Hall and Altone Lynch Jr. were third.

Paula Wellwood trains the Angus Hall colt for the Wellwood Stable. He scored his sixth win in nine starts.

The top three finishers plus the fastest fourth-place finisher--Libra Vita in the first elim--advanced to the final with the winners picking their post positions. The field in post position order: Libra Vita, Laddie, Mythical Lindy, Donato Hanover, Edgestone Hanover, Quite Easy, Relentless Duke, Stunt Man Hall, Adrian Chip and Xactly Hanover.
