Donato, Val Taurus, Pampered Princess meet in 2nd elim

It won't take until the second heat of Saturday's $742,000 Kentucky Futurity at The Red Mile for Donato Hanover, Val Taurus and Pampered Princess to meet up as the three sophomore trotters drew in together in the second of two eliminations. Although the three standouts will line up behind the starting gate in that same elim, the connections of all three trotters were pleased with the draw.

Seventeen 3-year-old trotters were entered for this year's 115th renewal of the Futurity, including three supplemental entrants--Val Taurus, Green Day and Anderberg--and the filly Pampered Princess. The draw was held near the trophy stand between the 2nd and 3rd races at The Red Mile Wednesday afternoon.

Hambletonian winner Donato Hanover drew post five with driver Ron Pierce. Co-owner David Scharf nodded his head in agreement when asked if that post would work for him. Pampered Princess then landed post eight, but trainer Jimmy Takter said afterward that he was OK with the post and that John Campbell will be in the sulky. And trainer Normand Bardier Jr. smiled when Val Taurus then drew post seven.

Yonkers Trot winner Green Day drew post three with driver Andy Miller in the first Futurity elim. Campbell's Flirtin Man will start from post six, just inside of Mythical Lindy and driver David Miller.

The two eliminations are scheduled as the 8th and 9th races on the Saturday afternoon program, with the top five in each earning a spot behind the starting gate in the second heat. If one of the elim winners does not win the second heat then the three winners will return for a third-heat race-off.
