Society Kad and Don Giovanni used similar tactics to score impressive victories in Thursday night's first leg of the Tie Silk Trotting Series for 3 year olds at Woodbine Racetrack. Don Giovanni posted the fastest of the two $18,000(C) splits when he stopped the clock in 1:55.3 in the second division for Jack Moiseyev. The Yankee Glide colt shot out from third to take over command in the second quarter and then easily disposed of Nureyev and Bold As Blazes for the victory. It was a new lifetime mark and the second win in seven starts this season for the Anders Wolden trainee who is owned by Ely Iversen of Moffat, Ont. In the opening division, Society Kad sat fourth in the early going and also took charge at the midway point en route to an authoritative 1:56.3 score for driver Chris Christoforou. The son of Kadabra turned back Clerk Magistrate and Moon Dreamer for the win. It was the second tally in just three career starts for Society Kad who is trained by Steve Gilmour. He co-owns the trotter along with Kenneth Guest and the Genesis Stable III of Ontario. The Tie Silk Series continues with second-round action next Thursday night at Woodbine. (WEG)
