Dontloseyourdayjob captured the $145,000 Lou Babic Memorial and Happy Dreamer coasted to victory in the $80,000 companion filly event, both on Saturday afternoon at Freehold Raceway. The Babic Finals for New Jersey-sired 2-year-old pacers, worth a combined $225,000, are named in memory of one of the founders of the New Jersey Sire Stakes program, and are sponsored by the New Jersey Sire Stakes. Dontloseyourdayjob ($8.00, $3.60, $2.60) got up for a one-length victory over a pair of McArdle geldings, Meant To Be Me ($4.20, $4.80) who edged a longshot, Dear Mac [$6.80], in race 12.
Dontloseyourdayjob, driven by George Brennan and trained by Monte Gelrod, paced the mile in 1:54.3, improving his record to four wins and three seconds in nine starts. The son of Life Sign, bred and owned by Fred Monteleone Stable LLC of Pompano Beach, Fla., has now banked $102,500.
In the co-featured Babic Filly, race 10, Happy Dreamer ($3.80, $2.40, $2.10), a daughter of McArdle, was a gate-to-wire winner in 1:55.1, a lifetime best.
It was 2-1/4 lengths back to Cheyenne Trish ($3.60, $2.40), who is by Artiscape, in second, and 10 lengths to Dreamlands Latte ($2.40), a daughter of Artsplace, in third.
Happy Dreamer, driven by Andy Miller and trained by his wife, Julie Miller, has a record of three wins, two seconds and a third from six starts, for earnings of $66,340. Lomangino Standardbreds of Tinton Falls, N.J. owns and bred the filly. (NJSS)
