Freshmen trotting sensation Donttellmywife came to Batavia Downs Gaming Friday night (Sept. 5) on a mission, to head into next week's Night of Champions undefeated. Not only did he accomplish that goal but he leaves with another track record in the process.

Trotting in 1:59.3, Donttellmywife lowered Hitwithladies's 2:02.4, 2-year-old record by over three seconds, when he scored in a $64,187 New York Sire Stakes event.

Starting from the rail, Dontellmewife, in rein to Jeff Gregory, worked out the give and go with Calchips Brute and Brian Sears after an opening stanza of :29. Once back in front the talented gelding by Malabar Man-Nowerland Sweet T put up all the numbers, en route to a 3-1/4-length victory.

Donttellmewife, now a perfect 6 for 6 with earnings over $133,000, is owned by George Ducharme who trains as well, Nicola Oliva and Chester track analyst, Shannon Di Antonio.

“That’s a nice mile, the track’s a little sticky right now” Jeff Gregory said. “He was handy to the wire and should be fine for next week as long as we draw a decent post.”

Gregory, a Churchville, New York native (20 minutes from Batavia) was supposed to be at John Campbell’s daughter's wedding, but after talking to Campbell decided to fly in to drive.

In other Sire Stakes action, reinsman Kyle Di Benedetto put East Creek Otto on the lead and they held off a late charge by Hitontheflipside (Kevin Cummings) in the first $64,187 Sire Stakes race of the evening. Well rated on the top end, East Creek Otto a Credit Winner-Bibbidi Bobbidi gelding, cut out fractions of :30,1:03,133.2 to win by be a head in 2:03.2.

East Creek Otto is owned by East Creek stable and trainer John Cannone. Scoring for the first time in his career, East Creek Otto raised his earnings to over $59,000.

There was no doubt who the best was in the final Sire Stakes race on Friday night. With a purse of $65,387, a Conway Hall-Spin The Planet colt, Spin Spanky Spin with trainer-driver Dan Daley in the sulky took command approaching the five-eighths and never looked back, winning by 5-1/4 lengths in 2:00.3.

Owned by Ann-Mari Daley, Charles Iannazzo and Richard Lombardo, Spin Spanky Spin scored for the second time in his career and raised his earnings to over $69,000. (Batavia)
