The diminutive Doonbeg made his first Canadian qualifying appearance Monday morning at Mohawk Racetrack, finishing second in a 1:55 clocking. Doonbeg came into the event off just a single workout mile at the Southern Oaks Training Center in South Florida. With Jody Jamieson driving, Doonbeg set all the fractions and was beaten just a quarter of a length in a 56-second final half. Zooka bounced back after finishing distanced in an April 21 Open Pace at Woodbine. Doonbeg was just one of three starters sent out Monday morning by trainer James "Friday" Dean. He also unveiled Pepsi North America Cup hopeful Domitian Hanover. The son of Camluck was also second his qualifier for driver Jamieson, finishing a length and a quarter behind No Taboo in 1:56. Domitian Hanover, who won last year's OSS Super Final, came into the qualifer off a 1:59 qualifying win at Southern Oaks. Dean also sent out Riesling Hanover, a Real Artist colt who finished third behind the Bill Elliott-trained Wantasmile in a 1:56.2 effort. Other big names in action Monday morning included the 2006 Confederation Cup winner Armbro Deuce (finished third behind Zooka), multiple Gold Series winner Australian Stock (second to Meadowview Matty in 1:59.3) and Breeders Crown runner-up Relentless Duke (third in the same event).
