Double Dribble bounces to Meadows series win

Double Dribble did a double take at the top of the lane, didn’t like what he saw outside and bounced into the Lightning Lane to capture a division of the Wheel Of Fortune at The Meadows. Foolish Attempt also used a late brush Tuesday to take the other $15,000, second-leg split of the series for 3- and 4-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

Double Dribble was 2-1/2 lengths behind the dueling leaders, Billante’s Dream and I Like It Hot, when Aaron Merriman guided him to the outside for the stretch drive. In an instant, though, the 3-2 favorite dived inside and found that route to his liking, drawing off to down Billante’s Dream by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:54.4 over a sloppy track. I Like It Hot was third.

Norm Parker trains Double Dribble, a 4-year-old Allamerican Ingot-Lills Dream gelding, for Mike Foote.

Foolish Attempt saved ground on the tiring surface, a trip that left him 4 lengths in arrears around the final turn. He unleashed an impressive brush for Brett Miller that carried him to a nose victory over the first-up Expensive Toy in 1:56, with Up Front Mustang third.

Jim Rothfuss trains and owns Foolish Attempt, a 4-year-old I Am A Fool-Keystone Musical gelding who notched his second consecutive Wheel Of Fortune triumph.

Miller drove six winners on the 13-race card, including the 5,000th of his career with Sure Duffy in the sixth race, while Merriman fashioned a triple. (The Meadows)
