His win streak snapped at five last week, Dougs Fame got back to work Tuesday at The Meadows, notching a hard-earned victory in the $27,500 Preferred Handicap Pace.
Leaving from post eight for Dave Palone, Dougs Fame raced outside for most of a :26.3 opening quarter before finally securing cover from Mystery Chase, his vanquisher last week. Dougs Fame blew by that rival in the stretch, then held off the late charge of 50-1 Infinite Justice, who rallied from last to be second by a length, just ahead of Mystery Chase. The winning time was 1:52.3.
Ron Burke trains Dougs Fame, a 4-year-old son of Apaches Fame-Armbro Vertical who pushed his career bankroll just south of $300,000, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, JJK Stables and W.W. Haas Jr.
Palone and Aaron Merriman each drove four winners on the 14-race card while Burke fashioned a training triple. (The Meadows)
