Tiz To Dream made all the speed and held on for an impressive gate-to-wire victory in Monday’s $130,000(C) Ontario Sire Stakes Gold final for 2-year-old filly pacers at Mohawk Racetrack. The daughter of Grinfromeartoear-Extreme Dream left sharply from post two for driver Doug McNair and grabbed control of the pace through a strong :26.2 opening quarter. Ice Ice Baby had also left alertly and was looking to drop into the pocket in the first turn but rolled off stride, leaving Tiz To Dream alone with a substantial advantage in the second quarter. McNair seized the opportunity and stole a 31-second breather in the second panel, putting up an opening half in :57.2. At that point, St. Lads Trixie made the first-over sacrifice and prompted the pacesetter through three-quarters in 1:26.2. In the stretch, Tiz To Dream was able to fend off the challenge of St. Lads Trixie but then had the pocket-sitting Striking Terror to contend with in the late stages. Tiz To Dream dug deep and then got some help when Striking Terror rolled off stride just before the finish. Tiz To Dream stopped the clock in 1:54 with Striking Terror surviving an inquiry to remain second and St. Lads Trixie rounding out the top three. It was the second career win and a lifetime-best performance for the $9,000 Forest City yearling purchase who is co-owned by Paul Kidd along with trainer Gregg McNair of Guelph, Ontario. The filly returned $9.80 and improved her career earnings to just over $89,000 with the win. (WEG)
