Drive All Night, a 19-1 long shot, rallied from last to first in the final quarter mile to win the featured Open Handicap Pace on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried the night’s top purse of $24,000.
George Napolitano Jr. guided Drive All Night, trained by Carmine Fusco, to the outside around the final turn to get by the horses in the back. In the stretch, he shifted him back in to out-finish four other horses that were within one-half length of the winner at the finish line. Ideal Race settled for second while Kid Courageous got the show.
Drive All Night, owned by Joseph Limongelli of Pittston, Pa., paced the mile in 1:50.4 for the victory, his fifth in 16 tries in 2010 and the 28th of his career. With the winner’s share of the purse, the gelding’s career earnings sailed over $241,000. (Pocono)
