Driven to win at Dover

November 14, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Driven To Win closed strongly to score a 1:50.4 victory in the $32,500 Preferred Handicap Pace Monday at Dover Downs. Black Cat Bone used similar strategy to take the $30,000 Delaware Special. Driver Ross Wolfenden drove four winners, Ron Pierce three wins, while Joe Hundertpfund had a training triple.

In the first Preferred feature of the meet, David Miller pulled Driven To Win to the outside in mid backstretch to follow Chewy Gross and Pierce as they battle Roddy's Bags Again and Eddie Davis Jr. into the three-quarters. Chewy Gross took over rounding the final turn and led the way down the lane until Driven To Win finally caught him in the closing strides for the win. Quick And Deadly with Tony Morgan edged Roddy's Bags Again for the show money.

Driven To Win is owned by Martha and Milton Frank, Ted Gewertz and trainer Joe Holloway. The Jenna's Beach Boy horse won for the sixth time this year raising his seasonal earnings to $107,250 and $743,018 lifetime.

In the $30,000 Delaware Special, Black Cat Bone appeared to be hopelessly locked in at the three-quarters but Pierce found room to get out and hustle down the late to catch Prince Of Luck, driven by Brad Hanners and the Brian Sears-driven Cool Flying Fun at the wire in 1:52.2. The win was the first for the Erika Paradee-owned and trained veteran gelding since late summer.

Rodney Long and Tim Hundertpfund's Midnight Walk overtook front-pacing Maximum Viking in deep stretch to post a 1:52.1 win in the $25,000 Open. Ross The Boss N and Roger Plante was third. (From Dover Downs)
