“Somebody pinch me, it’s just amazing; it’s great,” Tetrick said in the winner’s circle.

Tetrick started his journey to the record at Dover on Jan. 1 when he won five races. Since then he has traveled to 19 racetracks and made 4,263 starts to break the record of 1,077 set by Walter Case Jr. in 1998.

Tetrick, who has had only four days off this year, indicated he wasn’t ready to take a vacation, yet, saying, “I’ve come this far, so let’s blow it (the record) out of the water.”

Coming into Tuesday's 15-race card at Dover Tetrick need three wins to break the record. He recorded win 1,076 with Vivere (1:53.1) in the fourth race and tied the record in the ninth race with SA Cheerleader (1:54.1). After setting the recrod he added two more victories, winning the 14th race with Standforsomething (1:57) and the 15th race with Housewives Delight (1:55).

Tetrick, who turned 26 on Thanksgiving Day, already holds the single-season earnings record. The previous mark of $15,085,992 was set by Brian Sears in 2005. Tetrick went into Tuesday’s card with $16,432,529 in earnings this year and $35,843,694 for his career, which began in 1998.
