Driver to remain in hospital

October 24, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

John Campbell is still resting in a Toronto-area hospital and will remain so until surgery is performed in the next few days to help stabilize the tibia bone in his left leg that he broke in a race accident last Saturday night at Woodbine. Surgery has already been performed to reduce the swelling, with the additional operation likely to take place Friday or Saturday.

According to Campbell’s wife, Paula, the Hall of Fame driver has been consulting with both his New Jersey-based orthopedist and the doctors in Toronto and it was agreed that the surgery would be performed before he returned home to New Jersey. The doctors have all told Campbell that he should expect a full recovery from the injury.

Because Campbell is sharing his room at Etobicoke General Hospital with three other patients, his family has asked that get-well wishes be limited to cards.
