Dr. John Glesmann, won Hambo with American Winner, dies

Dr. John B. Glesmann, who along with partner Bob Key won the 1993 Hambletonian with American Winner, died Saturday at age 88 at his residence in New Jersey.

 

Born in Rome, NY, Dr. Glesmann had resided in East Amwell Township, NJ, for the past 14 years, having previously lived in Somerset and Bridgewater.

 

Dr. Glesmann received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and then attained his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine. He was the retired director of the department of anesthesiology of Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, where he worked for over 50 years. He also worked for 15 years concurrently at the Carrier Clinic in Belle Mead, NJ.

 

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Dr. Glesmann was honorably discharged at the rank of captain in 1948. A long-time member of the American Medical Association, he was also a member of the U.S. Trotting Association. He also enjoyed sailing.


Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Sylvia Hoffmann Glesmann; three sons, Glenn Glesmann of Wayland, Mass., Eric Glesmann of Remsen, NY, and Jonathan Glesmann of Andover, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Heidi, Erica, Eli, Richard, Kurt and Nicole Glesmann and Christine Coen; and his long-time companion, Linda Adams of East Amwell Township.
