D Train, the dam of likely Harness Horse of the Year Donato Hanover, and Lisheen, who numbered top free-for-aller Lis Mara among her breeding accomplishments this past year, have been elected as Trotting and Pacing Broodmares of the Year for 2007 in voting by the U.S. Harness Writers Association.
No mother could wish for a better “son” than Donato Hanover, and the crossing of Andover Hall with D Train (she by Donerail out of Aldyth Hanover) produced a spectacular colt who equaled the all-time record for trotting with a 1:50.1 mile in the second heat of the Kentucky Futurity. Donato, who also became the first trotter to win over $2 million in a single season, will now join his dam at Hanover Shoe Farms, where she lives, and where he was raised and now returns in triumph as a sensational siring prospect.
Lisheen (Abercrombie-Lismore) continues a long line of success for owner Tim Rooney of Yonkers fame, with her son Lis Mara again earning over $900,000 against the very best free-for-all pacers around while winning in 1:47.4. Also to Lisheen’s credit this year was Lis Deo, who paced in 1:50.2 at age two; and Lisjune, p, 4, 1:50.4.
The connections of D Train and Lisheen will be feted at the annual USHWA Awards Banquet, to be held at Dover Downs on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008. Tickets for the dinner are available from Scott Warren or Mark Short at (302) 398-7595; congratulatory ads in the Banquet Journal can be obtained from Randy Manges at (859) 351-4595; and hotel reservations can be made from www.doverdowns.comor (302) 674-4600–code GUSHWA.
