Dube recovering at home

April 05, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Driver Daniel Dube is home in Millstone, N.J., recovering from fractures of his right clavicle and several ribs suffered in a spill on Wednesday, March 29 at the Meadowlands. Dube was released on Sunday from Hackensack University Medical Center but will be sidelined for several weeks.

"I am doing a little better," said Dube. "I can get around some. The worst part is the ribs. They hurt when I breathe and move. They told me to move around and walk as much as I can. I just got the tape of the race. I saw it yesterday for the first time. I had moved to the left to get out of the way, but the bike jumped up and hit me very hard. All of a sudden, just like that. It hurts to watch it, but I'm not sure what I could have done to get out of the way even now."

The accident happened near the finish line of the fourth race on March 29 when CPW and his driver, Andy Miller, were pinched in tight quarters, flipping Miller out of his seat. The vacated sulky collided with Dube and his horse. Miller and the two horses received only minor injuries.

The 36-year-old Dube, a Quebec native, has 5,200 victories and nearly $39 million in purse earnings to his credit. He suffered a separated left shoulder in a spill on May 9, 2002 at the Meadowlands and missed two months. (Meadowlands)
