Dube returns with victory

Return Home
June 09, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After sitting on the sidelines for two months due to injury, Dan Dube made his return to the races, a winning one, with Marnie Hall in the $40,000 mares open for Lady Liberty eligibles Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Marnie Hall launched a first-over attack and emerged the winner of a fierce stretch duel with 3-5 favorite Glowing Report and Burning Point for a neck victory in 1:50.

Dube drove for the first time in two months after fracturing his right clavicle and several ribs in an accident at the Meadowlands on March 29.

“Right now I feel good,” the Quebec native said. “I’m going to get stronger after I drive more, but I feel fresh. I didn’t go to rehab. The bone healed good. I’m in 11 races Saturday night, so I’m back for good.

It was the second win in five starts this year for the Mark Silva-trained 4-year-old. Owned by Daniel Plouffe of Bedford, Quebec, Marnie Hall improved her career record to eight wins in 24 starts and increased her earnings to $252,946.

The seven mares in the prep, plus Restive Hanover and Loyal Opposition, will race in the $225,000 Lady Liberty Final Friday, June 16 at the Meadowlands.
