For the second consecutive week, the 6-year-old trotter Ducati motored past his competition to take Thursday's featured $5,500 non-winners trot at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway in 2:00.1. Driven from post eight by Dan Cappello Jr., Ducati had very little interest in contesting the early stages of the Thursday trot, dropping back to seventh while spotting the leader Goblinsgonnagetyou (Brian Allen) 10 ½ lengths through an opening quarter mile that went in :28.3. As the trotters made their second turn of the mile, Ducati was eased out of seventh to begin a prolonged journey on the outside, gapping the cover provided by Gia (Kim Crawford) and J Power (Jay Randall) as Goblinsgonnagetyou continued to show way to the half-mile marker in :58.3. Gia wrestled the lead away from a retreating Goblinsgonnagetyou through a three-quarter split in 1:28.3, while J Power opted to catch a breather in the pocket, leaving Ducati uncovered while continuing his extended march towards the front. Gia entered the stretch with a slight advantage over J Power, but neither horse had an answer for the determined drive of Ducati, who charged at his rivals down the center of the track to get up in the final yards and prevail by a neck in a tight three-horse win photo. Ducati returned $9.30, $6.20, and $3.30 for the victory. J Power brought in $4.60 and $3.60 for second, while Gia paid $2.90 for third. Owned by Leonard Bogner and Albert Meyer, and trained by Duane Stivale, Ducati has prevailed in two of three outings this year, which matches the gelding’s win total from 11 appearances in 2007. Bred in Michigan by Nancy Wheaton, the son of Davanti owns a record of nine wins from 30 lifetime starts. (Saratoga)
