Dynamic set for Cup

He made his 2006 debut in the Burlington Stakes, and after a hard-closing fourth-place finish, Armbro Dynamic appears to be in relatively good form heading into his Pepsi North Cup elimination this Saturday evening at Woodbine.

Trainer Bob McIntosh, who owns the son of Western Hanover along with CSX Stables and Al McIntosh Holdings Inc., has said that a trip south for some surgery has done the colt a world of good since he put in his first qualifier of the year on May 3 at Windsor Raceway.

"He was alright in his first qualifier in Windsor, but I wasn't totally satisfied with him," McIntosh said about Armbro Dynamic, who had gone wire-to-wire in the 'qually,' stopping the clock in 1:57.3. "I ended up sending him down to Ohio State and they ended up doing a myectomy on him and lasered his soft palette. When he came back he trained much more impressively. Dr. Robertson, who did the surgery, thought he'd be quite a bit better."

Armbro Dynamic then qualified again over Windsor and triumphed by four lengths, again in 1:57.3, after taking a pocket ride.

"I sent him to Mohawk to qualify [on May 30] and Rick [driver Rick Zeron] was enthused with him," McIntosh said, referring to Armbro Dynamic's 2 1/2-length victory, clocked in 1:52.3. "Off that effort, it was a last minute decision to enter him in the Burlington."

Zeron and Armbro Dynamic left from post eight in their Burlington split and sat eighth for the first three-quarters of the mile. The pair were three-wide at the three-quarters pole and were charted sixth at the head of the lane, 91/4 lengths in arrears of the pacesetter. Zeron asked the colt in the lane and the career winner of two races responded, kicking in to finish 21/2 lengths back of Joe To Go, who also closed for the win over the very sloppy track.

"Coming off qualifiers, and with the track as bad as it was that night, I was very pleased with the way he raced," said McIntosh. "I thought he had more pace at the wire than anyone else in that division and Rick also thought he was the livest horse at the wire."

Armbro Dynamic has drawn post six in the third of Saturday's 'Cup' eliminations, an eight-horse tilt.

The Armstrong Bros.-bred will have his work cut out for him, drawing in against Took Hanover, Dave Panlone, Perfect Union and Fox Valley Appeal, among others. (Woodbine press release)
