February 19, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

An airborne Eagle On It used a sparkling off-the-pace rally to upend his stablemate Stonebridge On Ice in the lone $18,000 division in the first leg of the Ontario Boys Pacing Series Monday at Woodbine Racetrack.

After leaving from the trailing post 11, Eagle On It got away eighth in the early going for driver Rick Zeron and watched Just The Begrining and Daylon Chance duel through a first half of :55.4 with Mr Saratoga sitting a close third and favorite Stonebridge On Ice back in sixth position. The top pair continued their battle past three-quarters in 1:24 and were joined by Stonebridge On Ice who made a three-wide rally.

Turning for home, Stonebridge On Ice took over command but had Eagle On It flying late and Mr. Saratoga trying to weave through between horses. In the end, Eagle On It ($22.80)got up in the last strides to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:53.2 with Stonebridge On Ice holding second over Mr. Saratoga.

The win was the second in four tries this year for the Gregg McNair trainee and improved his career bankroll to more than $50,000 for owner Frank Dettore of North Ridgeville, Ohio.

The Ontario Boys Pacing Series, which is open to 4-year-old colts and geldings, will continue next Monday night at Woodbine. (WEG)
