Eagle Run scored a major upset while Blue Mist turned in a mild one in Thursday night's second leg of the Miss Vera Bars Pacing Series for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

Eagle Run, with Jason Brewer driving, left alertly for position in the opening $17,000 split in race two and then converted off a ground-saving journey to haul down favorite Gerries Madison at the finish in 1:57. Paper Cut came on late to grab the show spot.

It was the first win in four tries this season for the Dragon Again filly who is trained by Shawn Robinson for owner Frank Detorre.

In the second division in race four, Blue Mist stayed inside for most of the way and then found clearance along the inside turning for home. Driver Phil Hudon swung her to the outside in the late stages and the Real Desire filly was able to prevail over race favorite Changing Gears in 1:55.3. Maeve Hanover came flying late to finish third.

Thursday's win was the second this season for Blue Mist who is trained by recent O'Brien Award recipient Blair Burgess. The group of Karin Olsson Burgess, Stephanie Burgess, Katherine Burgess and Pamela Shaffler share ownership.

The final of the Miss Vera Bars Series goes next Thursday night at Woodbine.  (WEG)
