With a 1:50 effort, Economy Terror captured the fastest of two $111,000 divisions of the Glen Garnsey Memorial for 3-year-old filly pacers Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile. The other Garnsey split went to Romantic Moment in 1:50.3.
Leaving from post six in the second Garnsey division, Economy Terror was sent for the early lead by driver Dave Palone. Moving past the opening quarter in :27.3 still in front, Economy Terror then yielded to a fast-moving American Jewel and Tim Tetrick. Heading down the backstretch, American Jewel hit the half in :55.4. Moving through the final turn she reached the three-quarters in 1:23.1 and turning for home still held the lead.
In deep stretch Shelliscape and John Campbell came rushing fast, but it was Palone and Economy Terror who squeezed through on the pylons to edge American Jewel at the wire. Shelliscape settled for third.
