Eight-degree day at The Meadows is a Spring Break

January 16, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

With the temperature a frigid eight degrees, The Meadows needed a spring break and it got one when Spring Break sizzled in the $25,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace, capturing the track's top distaff pace for the second consecutive week.

Mike Wilder gunned Spring Break to the lead, where the 5-year-old daughter of Dream Away-Siobhan worked out a comfortable first half in :59.1. She cruised from there, scoring in 1:56.1, a length better than the ground-saving Chinatown K. Jans Luck, who ducked off a two-week freshener, rallied strongly for third.

Dan Altmeyer trains Spring Break, who pushed her career earnings to $330,071 for Joann and Joe Thomson. It was one of four victories on the 13-race card for Wilder. (The Meadows)
