April 06, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Female pacers take center stage at Pompano Park Friday evening as the spotlight event at the South Florida oval is the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Isle Mile I Pace, which has attracted a field six and will go as the first race on the program.

Drawing the outside post for Friday’s Isle Mile I is Hypnotize, owned by Louis Diffenback, William Mack Jr., Lisa Diffenback and trainer Jim Mattison. In her most recent appearance, the daughter of Artiscape crossed the wire sixth after starting from post nine over a sloppy racing surface. Hypnotize enters the Friday feature as the leading female pacer at Pompano in wins this year. The 5-year-old mare has visited the winner’s circle on six occasions, highlighted by a lifetime best victory in 1:52.2 on March 9.

Listed at 4-1 in the morning line, Hypnotize will be driven from post six by David Ingraham.

Installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite, Velvet Eileen has not made a pari-mutuel start since Nov. 11, 2006, when the daughter of Mark Johnathan prevailed in a non-winners event at Indiana Downs in 1:55.3.

Owned by Rod Lorenzo, Ciro Gentile and Pomtambo Stable, and trained by Michile Lorenzo, Velvet Eileen has made one qualifying appearance at Pompano this year, scoring a 3 ¾-length victory on March 30 while stopping the timer in 1:55.2.

Velvet Eileen has drawn post five for the Friday feature and will be driven by Bruce Ranger.

A 10-time winner in 2006, including a victory in 1:51.3 that was the fastest mile by a female pacer in the 43-year history of Pompano Park, Wilma Hall looks for her third win of the year in the Friday feature. Owned by Knockout Stable and trained by Jim McDonald, Wilma Hall exits a three-length victory against winners-over competition on March 30 where the daughter of Blissfull Hall paced the mile in 1:56.1.

Wilma Hall has drawn post three for Friday’s pace and will have Anthony Napolitano at the lines.

Rounding out the field for the Fillies and Mares Isle Mile I Pace is Golden Falcon N, who took a winners-over event on March 9 in 1:54.1; Cape Cove Daisy, a two-time winner this year including a 1:55.2 triumph on March 16; and All About Maggie, who exits consecutive second-place performances.
