Sophomore EJ’s Copperstone picked up where she left off at Hoosier Park, winning the opening round of Indiana Sires Stakes competition for filly pacers Friday night at Indiana Downs. With Don Irvine Jr. in the bike, the daughter of Lease On Life captured the $12,000 contest in 1:53.2.

It was the sixth win in as many starts for EJ’s Copperstone, a winner of the $100,000 ISS final last month. In her first start over the Shelbyville oval, the filly won by two lengths equaling her lifetime best mark. Savanna’s Love and Brad Hanners were second while Alexabeth raced third for Ricky Macomber Jr. Bred and owned by L J Stone and Phillip Hawk, EJ’s Copperstone has earned just over $180,000 in her career. She has won 13 of 15 career starts.

Indiana Downs also played host to two $20,000 Invitational contests Friday. Hoosier Cadillac collected the Invitational Trot with a 1:54.1 performance. The Ripken’s Victory six year old was driven by Mark O’Mara for trainer Sally Gilbert. In the Filly and Mare Invitational Pace Kentucky Brew narrowly held off Camphor Hanover to win by a head in 1:53.3. Ross Leonard guided the eight-year-old Kentucky Spur mare to victory for trainer Dave White.
