Eligibles for Levy, Matchmaker at Yonkers

Return Home
March 12, 2013 | Print View

Nominations have been announced for Yonkers Raceway's seven-figure pacing events featuring the "older" crowd, the $1.5 million (est.) George Morton Levy Memorial Pacing Series and $1 million (est.) Blue Chip Matchmaker. The series, which begin Friday, Mar. 22 (Matchmaker) and Saturday, Mar. 23 (Levy), respectively, offer five preliminary rounds. Every Levy event goes for $50,000, while the Matchmaker contests go for $40,000 each. Both finals, and their consolations, are scheduled for Saturday, April 27.

Leading the 50 Levy nominees is two-time (2009-10) series champion Foiled Again. The 9-year-old Dragon Again gelding, he of the $4.6 million career bankroll, is the richest pacer of all-time. Foiled Again, who missed a head to stalemate Atochia in last season's series final, comes off a pair of million-dollar seasons and a pair of year-end divisional honors. His made a cool million here alone, with a Westchester resume consisting of 32 starts, 23 wins, 7 seconds, 2 thirds and $1,091,275.

Foiled Again and Atochia comprise a third of trainer Ron Burke's six Levy eligibles, which also include Annie'swesterncard, Clear Vision, Something for Doc and Stonehouse Adam.Defending Matchmaker victress Rocklamation is among 40 lasses in to play this time around...with nine of those trained by Burke, including Lady Maud winner Bettor B Lucky.

Double millionairess—and statebred standout--Anndrovette, runner-up in this race a season ago, is also on "the list," as are the likes of $1.7 million winner Ginger and Fred and another of the Empire's finest, Handsoffmycookie.
