Elims set for Hempt Mem.

Two Max C. Hempt Memorial Pace elimination races for top 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings and four open paces will highlight this coming Saturday’s live racing program at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Total purses for the day will be $218,300.

 

Each year the Hempt attracts several of the top sophomore pacers from throughout North America and this year’s field is no different as 17 three year olds are entered in the two elimination races. Nine will make the $350,000 finals the following week.

 

Top four finishers in each of the divisions will be eligible for the finals with the fifth fastest timed horse also getting into the following Saturday’s race. Each elimination race will carry a purse of $37,629.

7-Rusty’s For Real-T. Tetrick

AllAmerican Karnak is two-for two in 2007, winning impressively from the 10 and nine posts at the Meadowlands. Times of those wins were 1:52.3 and 1:53 with David Miller driving. George Teague Jr. trains both AllAmerican Karnak and Whats Up Now.

 

Takeshigemichi, a winner of four of 12 starts as a 2-year-old, will be making his first start of the season, as will Trueys Legacy and Pandoras Sox. Takeshigemichi, driven by Daniel Dube, won qualifying races at Freehold and the Meadowlands. The latter was a victory in 1:51.4, closing in :26.3. Tony Mannino is the trainer for Takeshigemichi.

 

Mr. Aviator, Ghee’s House, Mattdultery and Big Al’s Delight all earned more than $100,000 as 2 year olds. Mattdultery--also trained by Teague--The Double Dion and Rusty’s For Real all will be starting for the initial time in 2007. These three pacers all had life marks of 1:53.1 with Rusty’s For Real coming at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.  (Pocono Downs)
