Emantee wins NJSS final

The heavily-favored Emantee overpowered her competition to win the $85,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Championship Final for 3-year-old trotting fillies in 1:56.3 over an off track Thursday afternoon at Freehold Raceway.

With George Brennan driving, the daughter of Banker Hall took the lead at the three-quarter mile mark and drew off to win by 7 3/4 lengths over Bon Voyage. Love On The Rocks finished third.

It was Emantee’s fifth victory in 12 starts this year, which included the $85,000 Helen Smith Memorial Trot at Freehold last month. The filly has also been second in five starts, including the $750,000 Hambletonian Oaks at the Meadowlands.

The winner’s share of the purse boosted Emantee’s 2006 earnings to $404,212 for co-owners Barry Goldstein, Steven Shapiro and Marc Goldberg. The winning trainer was Trond Smedshammer.
