Frosh fillies took over Yonkers Raceway's marquee Monday night in the $197,567 New York Sire Stakes Mike Cohen Trot, and odds-on choice She's So Savvy (Howard Okusko Jr.) made it look effortless in her $49,841 event, strolling home by 3 1/2 lengths in 2:01, the fastest statebred mile of the evening.
Jessica Okusko trains the daughter of Malabar Man for Purple Haze Stables. She's So Savvy has now won four of her five 2008 tries and more than $70,000.
Stephane Bouchard won consecutive ($48,941) NYSS events wih Porque ($3.20) and La Marchesa ($7) in 2:02.2 and 2:02.3, respectively. The former, a Plesac miss trained by Linda Toscano for owner Richard Balog, has won twice in five seasonal starts. The latter, a daughter of Conway Hall trained by Carl Gillespie for owner Carolyn Atherton, is now three for eight this season. Second-choice Beachcomber ($7.10) and driver Jan Johnson sat pocketed to the pedestrian fractions of 3-5 fave Contag Way (John Stark Jr.) in the final ($49,841) grouping, then rolled right by in the lane anyway. The daughter of Conway Hall prevailed by 3 1/2 widening lengths in 2:04.4 for her fourth win in five seasonal sojourns. Like She's So Savvy, Beachcomber has banked in excess of 70,000 this summer. The victress is co-owned by Arden Homestead Stable and Adelaide Skoglund. (Yonkers)
