Enough Talk let his actions tell the story en route to a 1:53.3 all-time, all-age track record trotting performance, set by Personal Banner in the 1996 Breeders Crown, in the $10,000 eighth event on Thursday night (June 28) at Vernon Downs.
Brian Mattison did the teaming for trainer Paul Kelley as Enough Talk turned a two-hole trip into a 3-1/2 length triumph over Right Mind in the week’s Open Handicap test. The swift-striding 4-year-old gelding sat patiently behind RC Royalty until the final bend, then took command in the final quarter, timed in :27.4, and out-sprinted the fast-closing runner-up to the finish line.
In chalking up his first Vernon victory, but second score of the season, Enough Talk trimmed 3 and 3/5ths seconds off his previous personal win mark and bettered the former 1:54.1 all-age track record, set by Personal Banner in capturing the 3-year-old filly division of the Breeders Crown at the Downs on Oct. 25, 1996, when she upset Moni Maker. Owned by the Crossing Paths Farm, Enough Talk, a son of Enjoy Lavec, raised his career winnings to $213,946. (Vernon press release)
