Equine careers spotlighted

June 06, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

High school-aged girls considering a career with horses are invited to meet two women who have made a successful career working with horses on July 6. Boys are also welcome to this free career exploration event, which will be held in central New Jersey.

Trainer-driver Jacqueline Ingrassia and equine surgeon Dr. Patricia Hogan will describe the ins and outs of their jobs, career paths and how young people can prepare for a career working with horses. The day will begin at 11 a.m. at White Birch Farm in Imlaystown, New Jersey, where Mrs. Ingrassia is stabled and proceed to nearby Clarksburg, where Dr. Hogan practices at the New Jersey Equine Clinic. The event will conclude at about 2:30 p.m.

Mrs. Ingrassia has more than 1,000 wins as a driver and is the only woman to win a Trotting Triple Crown race. Dr. Hogan has treated many high profile racehorses from both the Standardbred and Thoroughbred world, including 2004 Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones.

There is no charge to attend the event, but advance registration is required. Transportation will be provided between the two locations if needed. Parents are welcome, but their attendance is optional. To sign up or for more information, contact Ellen Harvey at 732-780-3700 or HRCNews@ustrotting.com.
